scarf.jpg (161900 bytes)

Kae's scarf made with designs from K-LaceŽ: The Peacock Collection II could double as a table-runner or sofa-scarf. You can make yours any size you like, but hers is 11-1/2" by 53", not counting the tassels. She used the composite files for the big hoops -- 14 of pcfts1m1 and 13 of pcfts1m2. (This would be 122 of the single designs (pcftess1)). Instructions for joining lace are included with the collection.

Kae made the tassels from serger chain (3-thread rolled hem), using the same rayon she used for the scarf in the needle and lower looper, and a sparkly "SuperTwist" thread in the upper looper. Instructions for making basic tassels from serger chain are in "Deco Serging" by April Dunn. Basic tassel directions are also available in many decorating and tassel books. After making the tassels, she simply stitched glass beads around the tops, then used a turquoise bead between the tassel and the lace.

vest.jpg (100620 bytes)

This vest is made using Judy Bishop's "Panel Vest" pattern. Kae used a cotton/linen damask in a seafoam color. For the band and the side panels, she overlaid a darker tulle. The peacock was made using pattern number 5, one of the seven patterns included with K-LaceŽ: The Peacock Collection I. She lengthened it out a little and inserted some of the single flowers (flred1sl) in the spaces. On the other side, she made an arrangement from the single flowers and small feather designs (flred1sl & pcftip).

Covered buttons from Elizabethan Reflections embellish Kae's jumper. She used one of the K-LaceŽ collar/doily designs in a coordinating color to make the lace collar. For the collar, one of the designs from Timeless K-LaceŽ may be used, or one of the lace collar designs that were a Sew Beautiful bonus in early 1999, as shown. Using the doily from Fanciful K-LaceŽ & More (instructions are included), Kae has made a larger doily with tone-on-tone stamping with the matching fabric stamp number 2 and another butterfly border. The completed piece is about 14" at the widest point. Click the buttons to see the details.

Kae's Vest with designs from Fanciful K-LaceŽ & More

This vest represents a screen-door. The base fabric is overlaid with a silver mesh fabric. The border (reverse facing) is made from a moire printed fabric which has the look of wood-grain. I used fusible fleece to give a little dimension to the border. The closure is a screen-door hook. I made tiny fabric tubes in the border fabric to use a sleeves for the screws which I then sewed onto the border by hand and also stitched the metal eyes to the fabric to keep them in place. Then I stitched lace insects from "Fanciful K-Lace" to the surface of the vest. The "belt" in the back is a spring to give further reference to the screen-door.

I used an undersea fabric for the lining, and a jungle fabric with colorful birds, flowers and butterflies, along with various animals as the base material. The base fabric can be a representation of personal interior. A few possibilities (among many) for base fabrics might be floral to represent a romantic spirit, celestial for hopeful dreamers, humorous fabrics for fun-lovers, etc., etc. I wanted to use every one of these and more, which finally made the jungle print seem most appropriate.

The mesh will mute the colors and obscure the print to a certain degree, adding mystery to the effect. A dark base fabric with lighter colored insects gives depth and dimension to the effect. Another option would be lighter fabric and darker insects, which could give the effect of a glowing interior.
